How We Chose Our Topic
We chose our topic, Rosa Parks and the Bus Act of 1955 for many reasons. The main reason we chose Rosa Parks and the Bus Act was that we knew about the Montgomery Bus Boycott but wanted to know more about the facts and about the reasons for the occurring events. Learning about racism and segregation is important to us because it is not just about the boycott and the bus act, but also about learning important events in American History.
How We Conducted our research
First, we started with finding basic knowledge of the Bus Act and asked questions such as: “Who started the boycott?” “When did the bus act happen?” And “Where did the bus act happen?” Then we asked more in-depth questions which lead us to more questions. Next we worked together and shared our research and obtained a better understanding of our topic.
Why We Chose Our Medium and Created our Project
We chose to build a website because this event had a lot of visuals. It had many pictures that pertained to our topic yet a lot of multimedia that you can’t put on an exhibit in an essay. So we knew our options were either a documentary or a website. Although creating a documentary would have been fun, we thought a better outlet for our information was a website because we could divide up our information and emphasize each one individually. Also in our age looking at a website is very popular so by doing a website we thought we could reach more people. After creating our Weebly account, we began building our project. We knew we would need certain pages like: Home, Process Paper, Bibliography, and timeline. After creating those pages we only had a little bit of information on our topic in the website itself. So, we then drew up a plan on paper of how our website was going to look. We used a separate piece of paper for each page and laid out exactly what we wanted and where. We put down all of the information we wanted to be on the website and what page it would go on. After laying it all out we actually did it online. After putting on all of the information in the site, we added and modified the information we had, to come up with our final project
How Our Topic Relates to the NHD Theme
Our topic is an exact example of the NHD Theme because it was a turning point in social life in the south and all over America which at the time was hostile and racial. It also led to many other boycotts and new laws all over the country that opened new doors for people of all cultures and colors. The Bus Act showed that African Americans didn’t want to be pushed around by their "white" oppressors and that they were going to fight racism whenever and wherever they had to.
